History of the Faculty of Public Health
With a policy to develop educational management for the Department of Health Science, which earlier consisted of four faculties; Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Nursing, and Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Thammasat University therefore developed a plan to establish the Faculty of Public Health in order to produce well equipped public health personnel with knowledge and capacity of disease control and prevention as well as health promotion for public health and safety. Following the 8th Thammasat University Council Conference held on 29 August 2005, there was an approval on the agenda to establish the Faculty of Public Health as an independent institute under the direction of Thammasat University. Therefore, on 1 September 2005, the Department of Health Science, which was part of the Faculty of Science and Technology was successfully re-established as the Faculty of Public Health. In the education year 2005, the Faculty provided only Bachelor of Science program in Health Science, which is the same curricula as that provided by the Department of Health Science since 1986. The curricula, however, was closed in the education year 2007. Later on, the Faculty has expanded its education system to a regional level by its curricula in master degree in the education year 2014 and bachelor degree in 2016 at Thammasat Unversity Lampang Campus.
The Faculty of Public Health has continually developed its curricula and added new programs both in Rangsit and Lampang campus. For the Bachelor of Science program in Public Health provided at Rangsit Campus consists of study in the following 3 majors; 1) Occupational Health and Safety, 2) Health Promotion, and 3) Environmental Health. The same program provided at Lampang Campus consists of study in the following 3 majors; 1) Community Health, 2) Environmental Health, and 3) Occupational Health and Safety. For the Master of Science program in Public Health provided at Rangsit Campus consists of study in the following 5 majors; 1) Environmental Health and Safety Management, 2) Occupational Health and Safety Management, 3) Health Promotion Management, 4) Public Health Services Management, and 5) Epidemiology and Public Health Information Management. Furthermore, at Thammasat Universit Rangsit Campus, there is also a special program - Master of Public Health (International program) - designed as part of the collaboration policy made between the Faculty of Public Health and the Department of Planning and International Affairs, Ministry of Health in Lao People's Democratic Republic. There are 17 scholarship students from Lao People's Democratic Republic participating in this program. For the Master of Science program in Public Health provided at Lampang Campus consists of study in the following 2 majors; 1) Health Promotion Management and 2) Environmental Health Management, which are available for interested students in studying during Saturday and Sunday. In addition, there are also International Programs, Master of Public Health in Global Health, and Master of Science - Doctor of Philosophy in the following fields; 1) Occupational Health, 2) Ergonomics and Safety, and 3) Environmental Health available for studying.
