The Beginning of the Faculty of Public Health
With a vision to expand health sciences education and produce public health professionals who meet the growing needs of the country, the Thammasat University Council approved the establishment of the Faculty of Public Health as an autonomous faculty under the supervision of Thammasat University. The Faculty was established through the transformation of the Department of Health Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology, on September 1, 2005 (B.E. 2548).

1996
The idea of establishing the Faculty of Public Health was initiated to produce public health professionals who could effectively respond to the country’s growing public health needs.
02 Toward Establishment
September 1, 2005
The Faculty of Public Health, Thammasat University, was officially established.
03 Continuous Growth
2014 – Present
Expanded educational opportunities to Thammasat University, Lampang Campus, while continuously developing undergraduate and graduate programs.
Thammasat University has a policy to expand education in the health sciences in order to develop knowledgeable and competent public health professionals who can respond to the country’s needs. With this vision, the University initiated the establishment of the Faculty of Public Health in 1996 (B.E. 2539).
Although the project had been included in the Higher Education Development Plans, its establishment was postponed due to the economic crisis in 1997. Subsequently, Thammasat University revived the project and conducted a feasibility study for the establishment of the Faculty during 2002–2003 (B.E. 2545–2546). The initiative focused on developing public health professionals with expertise in disease prevention, health promotion, and public healthcare, while integrating knowledge from various disciplines across Thammasat University.
In 2003 (B.E. 2546), the Thammasat University Council approved the establishment of the Faculty as an autonomous unit under the supervision of the University. On September 1, 2005 (B.E. 2548), the Faculty of Public Health, Thammasat University was officially established through the transformation of the Department of Health Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology.
The Faculty began offering academic programs in the 2005 academic year and has continuously expanded and developed its curricula at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Faculty has also extended educational opportunities to Thammasat University’s Lampang Campus, launching its master’s degree programs in the 2014 academic year and undergraduate programs in the 2016 academic year.
At present, the Faculty of Public Health is committed to advancing education and research and developing highly qualified public health professionals to contribute to better health and sustainable quality of life for people and society.
